Panthers Travel To Ottawa To Take On Senators

Panthers have a 5-game losing streak in Ottawa...would be awesome to break that!

Totally different 1st period than the other night. The Panthers trail 0-1 and have been outshot 18-4! The Senators got a power play goal to get on the board (the Panthers had to face 3 PPs in that period.)

I'm not up to recapping that much. José played a great game and kept them close most of the game. It was 2-0 with less than half of the 3rd left, and then there were a couple of goals at the end. This loss can't be hung on him though. The team was sloppy and didn't even seem to be there. He was one of the few that actually showed up.

He saved 33 of 37 shots. 

The plan was to have Clemmensen play tomorrow night in Montreal, so when he doesn't start it's not because of tonight's game.

This will be the first time we've seen José play in a game since April 26, 2012! It's been TOO LONG!! I'm so excited!

Southeast rivals square off as Panthers play Canes

Wow! What a start to the game! After one period, the Panthers are leading 4-0!! José has stopped all 12 shots faced and looked great doing it.

After 2 the Panthers are leading 5-1. I can't get NHL's website to work right now to check, but I'm pretty sure he's faced 29 total shots so far, so that was 17 faced in that period.

And he looks outstanding. I don't see any rust at all. He kept in good shape during the lockout.

What a great way to start the season! The Panthers held on and won 5-1, and José saved 41 of 42 shots!!! Great game for our goalie.

And Jonathan Huberdeau made his NHL debut and scored the Panthers' first goal.

The Panthers finished 27th in the 30-team National Hockey League in goals scored last season.
Was anyone expecting them to transform overnight?

Florida held a 40-minute scrimmage in Coral Springs on Wednesday night and no one in the red home jerseys nor anyone in the white road jerseys scored a goal.

The Panthers goaltending, however, was good as usual.

"I was really happy with the goaltending,'' coach Kevin Dineen said. "There were some quality scoring chances that the goalies had to make big saves on. They both look like they are ready to go. We accomplished everything we wanted.''

Florida's two goalies -- Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen -- didn't give up a goal in either of the two, 15-minute periods nor the two five-minute overtime sessions.

There were some goals scored during the shootout exhibitions that followed each regular period but, hey, those didn't count.

The Panthers, like the rest of the NHL, will not play any preseason games before opening up the regular season this weekend. For the Panthers, Wednesday will be their final taste of game-like conditions before the lights go on for real Saturday against the Hurricanes.

"It was fun to have a game kind of,'' Theodore said. "Playing at 7 really changed it up, get ready for the regular season. It was fun. It's a building process and it's going to happen quick.''

Theodore and Clemmensen were one of the top goalie combos in the league last season and helped lead Florida to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Yet this offseason, most of the talk surrounding the Panthers involved a rumored return of All-Star goalie Roberto Luongo.

As of Wednesday, Luongo -- who still lives a few miles away from the Iceplex -- remained in Vancouver preparing for the Canucks' season opener.

Are Theodore and Clemmensen playing with a touch of attitude thanks to all the Luongo talk?

"I would,'' Dineen said. "If someone keeps on talking about someone else who is a world-class player, I would say, 'you know what? Bring it on.' You are talking about professional athletes. They know what the situation is. They can't wait to get the season started.''
