José does the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Maybe you've seen celebrities all over the place taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge...raising awareness and money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. They are challenged by someone to do it, then they challenge others. José was challenged by TVA colleague, Dave Morissette. He then challenged colleague Michel Bergeron, his sister-in-law, Vero, and singer Marc Dupre.

And I broke it down frame-by-frame. I'm assuming the little Spiderman on the right is Romi, his daughter. And I believe the one on the left is his nephew, Mason. Here is the translation:

Well then I’ve been abducted by 2 Spidermen, I don’t really know where I am, it’s cold I think it’s the river, but they told me I didn’t have a choice but to accept, my friend Dave Morissette challenged me. So Dave I’m here, I accept, I don’t really have a choice with these two keeping me hostage. I’m putting water, take off my cap Spiderman. I challenge The Tiger, Michel Bergeron, from TVA sports. My sister-in-law, Vero, you have to wear a white t-shirt like me. And Marc Dupre, the voice of Quebec. Vero, you have to wear a white tshirt.

José loves golf, August 2014 edition

It's long been known that José loves playing golf. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays everyday when possible, year round since he lives in Florida and pretty much lives on a golf course.

In the past couple of weeks he's played in two charity golf events in the Montreal area.

On August 6th, he participated in the Simple Plan Foundation tournament (the guys from the band Simple Plan are personal friends of his.)

This photo was from that event. He's with Dary Laflamme and Michel Bergeron.

Then earlier this week he participated in Michel Therrien's charity golf tournament.

I first realized he was at that event when Kris Letang, defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins tweeted/instagrammed this photo with the caption "Mon idole #60."

José is still doing analysis for TVA Sports

Just checking in to let you all know José is still doing analysis for TVA Sports. He was on their Free Agency Frenzy coverage on July 1, 2014. And TVA Sports is now the official French network of the NHL, so beginning next season they will be showing a lot more games, especially Habs' games.

And Val recorded this from her TV...it was when they asked José about his "Welcome to the NHL" moment.

Louis: What was your welcome to the NHL moment?

José: I remember it very well, and Renaud too remembers it. It was an emergency call up. I was 19 playing for the Hull Olympiques and Rejean Houle came to get me on a private jet so we could get to Hartford. I missed the warm up, I just had time to get myself dressed. In Hartford the number 2 goalie sits in the corner so it was 3-1 for us, I was relaxed looking around at the crowd appreciating the moment (I think a better non-direct translation is taking it all in.) Then all of a sudden 3 or 5 goals go in really fast, and I remember Mario Tremblay made a sign, andI had forgotten my glove and blocker in the locker room. So now Mario wants me to get on the ice, and you see me running for the locker room. It looked like I was scared and that I didn’t want get on the ice. And then I was scored on on the second shot. So that was really my baptism into the NHL. Wasn’t the best way to enter the NHL.

His first visit to Washington after signing (and he again tells people how to pronounce his name)

José signed with Washington on July 1, 2008, and his first visit to meet with management and staff was July 10, 2008. Here are some photos from that day.

Then this was a bit of his media scrum. I liked how he admitted he'd had some bad years, but they made him stronger mentally. And I love when he tells people how to pronounce his name, since so many people mess it up. I apologize for the background noise, so idea what's going on back there...maybe a Zamboni!

Then here is when he sat down with Mike Vogel the same day for a Snap Shots interview. Here again he addresses his last name. He says:

"I don’t know why they say ‘THAY-uh-dore’, because it’s actually an English name, my dad is English, so it’s ‘THEE-uh-dore.’"

What I'm up to

Over on tumblr I've been going through all José's games from the 2007-08 season, because those are the oldest games I can see on GameCenter right now. They keep all NHL games in their archive for 6 seasons. So I've been watching all of them and taking screen shots and posting photos from the games as well. I didn't know if it's something I should also do here, but maybe I should have. Although honestly it seems most people come to this site anymore looking for photos of José and Stephanie (which I love, because I'm happy to provide a place for people to see so many of their photos), so maybe people wouldn't really want to see the game-by-game stuff....I'm struggling a little bit with what I should do on here. I don't want to totally give it up, because it's the first José blog I started, and it was the beginning of it all. But I have more followers on tumblr and Facebook, so I just don't have the time to devote here.

I think I will still post shots of José from his TVA appearances. He's still been doing that. I'm waiting for my friend in Montreal to send me the shows, so once she does that I'll have screen shots to share. He usually went up to Montreal one week a month, and the other appearances were from his home in Florida. I have a feeling his family will be headed back up to Montreal for the summer soon, so maybe he'll be in-studio this coming week to discuss the Stanley Cup Finals games.

And since I finished his last season in Colorado over on tumblr, I'm now moving on to his first season in Washington.

But I will share this. I recorded the celebration and handshake line after the Avs' Game 6 win over Minnesota on April 19, 2008. We get to see a very happy José and hear the announcers talk about how great he was and how he was the series MVP.

So this was from April 19, 2008.


Then they met eventual Champions Detroit in the next round, and José had a bad case of the flu the first 2 games and wasn't able to finish either game. And the Avs were swept that series, so I won't focus on that. But that Minnesota series was awesome!
