Gameday: Wild at Dallas Stars (7:00 CST) Theo in Goal

The Wild travelled to Dallas overnight (early this morning) for their game tonight at 7:00CST. José will start for the Wild in this 2nd game of back-to-backs. Due to de-icing issues with the Wild plane, they didn't get into Dallas until 3:00 am this morning. So there was no morning skate. Here's hoping things go better for them tonight!!

  1. I'm liking that Theo's getting a lot of starts lately. It sucked that they went into SO last night... Backs is known to be awful at them. But maybe tonight we'll get the W :)

  2. Yeah, I actually felt really bad for Backs. He was solid during the rest of the game for the most part...he's just awful in SOs. I sometimes wonder if putting in a cold-been-sitting-on-the-bench Theo would be better than leaving Backs in for the SO. Theo's SO stats are pretty respectable. He's more reactionary than Backstrom. He might not win either, but it's almost guaranteed that Backs won't. Poor guy. ;o) Anyway, here's hoping tonight's game goes super well!!!

  3. The problem with putting a cold goalie on goal is that he might injure himself, it's easy to pull a muscle when you haven't warmed up well enough... lol I remember reading a suggestion somewhere that they have Theo warming up in the hallway when OT starts just in case.

Poor Backs. He's obviously getting back into his usual positional game, but the SO is made for players to find their way around positional goalies, so he's pretty much lost. And the Wild don't have many good SO players either... so they better just win in regulation or OT, or they're most likely lost

    AND GO THEO. :)

  4. Yeah, it would be dangerous to put him in without warming up, definitely. I was thinking of the "begin warming him up during OT" scenario. ;o) Well, actually I was joking more than anything. Haha!

But at least once you get to the SO, you are guaranteed a point, so even if you lose, it's not as bad as it could be. Shootouts just make me way too nervous. For everyone involved. I can't handle the stress!!

    Yes, GO THEO!!

  5. I was late for soccer the other day, and played a game without warming up. I'm a midfielder, so I run/kick a lot, and I pulled my groin and it hurts a shitload. I wouldn't give that to anyone, much less Theo. Whenever I read about a goalie getting a groin injury, I go like "oww shit". It just hurts SO much.

And I'm all for the SO point. At least it means they gave everything they could up until the very last moment!

  6. Oh, ouch!! I always hate hearing when they have groin injuries, because there's not much you can do for them. They get in some of the craziest positions when they are lunging for saves, I'm never surprised when they pull 'em.

Yeah, I feel like SOs are more luck than anything...yay for one point!

  7. Whenever they do the splits to get post-to-post, I cringe. They're pretty flexible, it's incredible.

  8. One of my favorite things about goalies. ;o)

  9. It's all about the masks and flexibility, right? ;D

  10. Haha!! Not quite...but those are a couple of the perks. Haha!!

  11. I'm bored and looking for a cool in-game picture of Theo to draw... any suggestions? :)

  12. How about one of those bottom three above in this post? I really liked that one that I found today in their green 3rd jersey. Or if you want full-body, there's the next one where he's playing the puck. That might be really tricky though. I also love when he "takes a knee" like in that bottom one. Those would be my suggestions, but whatever you choose will be great! Did you get that 3rd drawing scanned? Last time I checked you still had the first two.

  13. Oops...I got my order of the photos mixed up, but I think you get the idea.

  14. 3:00 am arrival in Dallas -- that's not good. Not only does that do away with the morning skate, it disrupts their sleep routines and means the training staff has to get the equipment out so it has time to dry (I don't think the skaters have doubles of all their pads and gloves.) Hopefully they can stay awake during tonight's game, especially the second period.

As far as standings points, the teams each get a point for getting the game to OT. As far as I'm concerned, the main thing the shootout does is give goalies practice for penalty shots.

  15. My scanner hates me, and so does my camera. I'll see if my brother lends me his camera to get the drawing up :)

  16. No problem about the drawing! I was just making sure I hadn't missed it. I am patient. ;o)

Hey, miseenjeu! You know I haven't been watching hockey all that long compared to you all, but would you believe I've never seen a penalty shot yet? Do they happen very often?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nah, not very often. I saw one maybe last week... don't remember who they were playing, but Crosby took it... maybe it was the Flames? At least I think it was Kiprusoff... yeah, he saved it but that didn't stop Sid from getting the hat trick...

    ... and I found my brother's camera, so I'm uploading now :)

  18. Saw the new drawing up! Looks awesome!!! I'm so impressed with your José drawings!! I tried to comment, but I think you have to have an account there...or maybe I could use my LJ account...I'll look into that. Anyway, my comments would be "Sweet! Awesome! Fantastic!" and the like. ;o)

  19. Thanks! :) I'm trying the one with him playing the puck, because it looks tricky and I love tricky ;P so far, it looks awful haha

  20. Haha!! I figured that one would be pretty difficult!! Good luck! You have 50 minutes before game time...

  21. I'm multitasking lol drawing and watching the Pens! Don't know how I'll do to watch to games at once, but I'll manage lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yup, you do what you have to do during hockey season! ;o)

  23. I have my priorities straight. I will watch both my hockey games, then finish my Theo drawing...
... maybe then I'll study for my exams.

  24. And for the record: Penguins sweeping 4-0 in the 1st. :D

  25. Re: penalty shots -- Alexander Semin seems to be adept at drawing them. I guess I've seen three or four in each of the past two seasons. We did have one game last year where the Sharks drew two penalty shots against us. Michal Neuvirth was in goal, and didn't stop either of them. I think the average is that goalies stop about 2 out of 3 in a penalty shot or shoot out situation.
