Some Day-After-Game Thoughts

Thanks to blowing snow, I didn't go out of town after all today, so I can blog sooner than I thought.

From Minnesota Wild's twitter feed: Todd Richards very pleased with teams performance calling it a gutsy win. Theodore made a lot of big saves in 249th career win.

Congrats, Theo!! Next will be 250 wins...wow!!

Here's what Mike Russo had to say about Theo's part in last night's game:

The Wild won its second in a row in an arena where the Los Angeles Kings had lost twice in the previous 13 home games. In the first 13 home games, the Kings had given up one power-play goal.

This one came after Chuck Kobasew drew a Drew Doughty interference minor in OT seconds after Jose Theodore stone-cold robbed Dustin Brown. The Wild only gave up 26 shots in the game, but Theo had to come up huge several times, especially because the Wild almost ruined the game by taking penalty after penalty.

"I was really focused tonight," said Theodore.

The Wild took nine minors in all, six in the final 30 minutes after taking a 2-1 lead on two gifts wrapped by Jonathan Quick.

"I got to be better and I can't make those mistakes," said Quick, who's had an outstanding season, by the way.

But the Wild, thanks to Theodore's saves and several gutsy blocked shots (Greg Zanon, Kobasew, etc.), held the Kings to only one power-play goal -- the tying goal.

And there was a lot of activity on Twitter last night about José (and not just between me and my friends. ;o) Here are a few, some more serious than others. His shirtless interview seemed to make quite an impression!

Jose Theodore deserves a pizza. Someone buy that guy a freaking pizza already.

The Wall, some call him Jose Theodore.

The Wild win and Jose Theodore is half naked on my T.V. Good night? Yes.

JOSE THEODORE = HOTTEST @mnwild GOALIE EVER. seriously, do all interviews with your shirt off. thanks.

The@mnwild's Jose Theodore has one wicked tattoo on his right shoulder and arm!

wow, Jose Theodore has quite the sleeve tattoo. the green eyes on that dragon are eerie.

From Glen Andresen's In-Game Commentary (Glen really likes José, so therefore I like Glen. ;o)

For my money, the Kings are one of more entertaining teams in the League right behind the boys in forest green and iron range red. Granted, I've never had to spend money on either team because I get into the games free of charge, but if I did have to pay, this is the game I'd want to see.

I think it's partly because I just love watching Jose Theodore tend the crease and cage, and he'll be getting the start tonight. Theodore isn't the biggest goaltender out there, but I'd say he's one of the most focused. And I have it on good authority that he's ultra focused win he finds himself surrounded by the glitz, glamour, pomp and circumstance of the place they call La La Land. Theodore just knows it as Rejection Land, which the Kings will learn tonight.

3rd Period
17:02 - Theodore continues to bail out his teammates as the Kings keep coming. Brown gets the puck behind the net and finds Justin Williams in the high slot. He snaps off a blistering one-timer that gives Theodore a nanosecond to react with a stupendous pad stop.

7:16 - Theodore better get a big steak dinner after this one tonight. He has been otherworldly and this is his best save of the night. Ponikarovsky is wide open and redirects a pass toward the goal, but just as it gets toward the goal line, Theodore sticks his right leg out and slams the door. Unbelievable stop.

OT
3:57 - Theodore is out of his mind right now. Once again, his right pad gets in the way of a sure goal as Brown crushes a one-timer after Kopitar makes a beautiful move behind the net before making the centering feed.

From Glen Andresen's Five Takeaways:

"We made it difficult on ourselves," admitted Todd Richards. "We battled. Theo made a couple big saves at really key times."

We'll get to the overtime heroics from Brent Burns later, but let's start at the back end and work our way out. And by back end, I mean that literally, because Jose Theodore spent about 30 minutes with an up close and a little too personal look at the back end of Ryan Smyth and other Kings forwards. Amazingly, he was able to block those images out of his mind as he came up with his most spectacular saves at the most critical times.

With Antti Miettinen in the box for four minutes late in the third, Theodore somehow got a pad over to stop a sure goal off the stick of Alex Ponikarovsky from eight feet out. In overtime, he used that same pad to steal one off the stick of Dustin Brown from the low slot after a perfect set up from Anze Kopitar. Theodore somehow was credited with only 24 saves, but several of those should count for two since I don't know how he saw most of them.

  1. "The Wild win and Jose Theodore is half naked on my T.V. Good night? Yes."

Funny how that was exactly what crossed my mind at the time, lmao.

  3. I absolutely love the guy who put up the stream tonight... I guess that's the only good part about west coast games... they're usually the last streams up, so the streamer just leaves them on and lets me see the postgame stuff :)º

  4. Ah, so usually you don't get to see it then. I thought that's what you said, so I was surprised when you said you were seeing it. So cool!!!

  5. it depends on the streamer though... I know the guy who does the Penguins games usually leaves the streaming open because he just does Pens games... but this guy who does the Wild games also streams the Flames and some other teams and he does them JIPed (Join-in-progress, which means he starts the next game as soon as the one before ends, so usually the next game is start to be shown about 10-15 minutes in already), so the last game of the night is left on
